Final Project Careers Course September 2026

Flower Market to Portfolio

One of the most important parts of the Berlin Flower School Careers Course is learning how to develop and realise your own floral concepts from start to finish.

As part of their final project, my students Isobel Garbett and Ulrike Graubner each received a €100 flower budget to purchase their own flowers for a concept of their choice. This is an essential part of the course: students learn how to select flowers with a specific design in mind, consider colour, texture, seasonality and quantity, and understand how to purchase and transport flowers professionally. They also learn about packaging and how to prepare their flowers for a full day of design work.

After purchasing their flowers, we return to the Berlin Flower School, where the students learn how to condition and care for their flowers before beginning their designs.

Each student then creates, on average, two to three individual floral pieces. They are responsible for developing their own concept, making their designs and setting up their own final presentation, with my guidance and support throughout the process.

The final step is professional photography. I photograph each student's finished work so that they leave the Careers Course not only with new skills and experience, but also with professional images for their own portfolio.

Ulrike Graubner – Inspired by the Dutch Masters

Ulrike chose to explore the tradition of Dutch Masters still-life paintings, creating two different floral concepts based on the rich, atmospheric colour combinations associated with this artistic tradition.

Her work focused on the relationship between flowers, colour, texture and composition, while giving each arrangement its own distinct colour story. The result was a beautiful exploration of the art of floral still life, translated into a contemporary floral design context.

Isobel Garbett – Autumn Event Floristry

Isabel approached her final project from an event floristry perspective. She created three different designs in a sophisticated autumn colour palette: a floral installation, a hand-tied bouquet and an altar bouquet.

Together, the pieces show how one colour story can translate into different event formats while maintaining consistency in style, movement, and seasonal character.

I am incredibly proud of both Isabel and Ulrike. Their final projects show not only their creativity, but also how much they have developed their ability to conceptualise, source, condition, design, install and professionally present their work.

This is what the Berlin Flower School Careers Course is about: learning the complete creative process and leaving with the practical experience, confidence and portfolio material needed to take the next step towards a career in professional floristry.
