Creating oversized seasonal wreaths for shop windows, retail displays and inspiring interiors
Some floral designs are made to be admired from a distance. During a recent private course at Berlin Flower School, we explored the art of creating oversized statement wreaths designed to transform shop windows, retail spaces and interiors into memorable visual experiences.
Working with natural materials, contrasting textures and a rich seasonal colour palette, we created three distinctive wreaths, each with its own character and design approach.
Wreath One: Natural Elegance with Eucalyptus, Protea and Hydrangea
The first wreath combined a natural willow base with eucalyptus, striking protea and hydrangea. The soft, rounded foliage created a beautiful contrast with the sculptural protea and the delicate textures of the hydrangea. The result was a generous, organic design with depth, movement and a contemporary feel.
Wreath Two: Seasonal Foliage and Fresh Accents
For the second design, we worked with a straw base, conifers, eucalyptus and fresh seasonal elements. Rich greenery provided the foundation, while expressive branches, berries and textured foliage introduced movement and colour. This wreath demonstrates how traditional materials can be interpreted in a modern, individual way.
Wreath Three: A Lasting Statement with Dried Botanicals
The final wreath explored the beauty of dried materials. Shades of burgundy, raspberry and muted earthy tones came together in a tactile composition of dried foliage, grasses and delicate botanical elements. With its striking colours and contrasting textures, this design offers a long-lasting decorative solution for interiors and retail displays.
Floral Design Beyond the Bouquet
Oversized wreaths offer endless possibilities for creative floristry. Whether displayed in a boutique window, used as a backdrop for a seasonal campaign or installed as a statement piece in a hotel or event space, they can communicate a brand's identity and create an immediate visual impact.
Our private course focused on material selection, colour composition, structure, proportion and the creative process behind large-scale floral installations. Working with three different bases and a variety of fresh and dried materials allowed us to explore different techniques and develop three individual designs.
At Berlin Flower School, private courses are tailored to individual interests and professional goals, giving you the chance to experiment with materials, refine design skills, and explore new creative directions.
