Funeral Flower Design — Two Day Intensive Course

Funeral floristry requires sensitivity, craftsmanship and a deep understanding of cultural traditions. This two-day intensive course at the Berlin Flower School is designed for florists and designers who wish to expand their professional knowledge and develop confidence in creating meaningful floral work for farewell ceremonies.

Across two immersive days, participants will explore both the creative and professional aspects of funeral flower design — combining technical floristry skills with essential knowledge about rituals, religious traditions, and working within the emotional context of bereavement.

Day One — Urn Designs, Wreaths & Ritual Knowledge

The first day focuses on floral designs created for ceremonies and memorial settings. Participants will learn how to design elegant urn arrangements and contemporary wreaths while understanding their symbolic meaning within different funeral traditions.

Lectures will introduce religious and cultural rituals surrounding funerals, helping designers work respectfully across diverse communities. Practical demonstrations and guided hands-on work will result in three completed designs, allowing participants to refine technique, proportion and mechanics.

Day Two — Coffin Designs & Floral Work for Mourners

The second day is dedicated to large-scale coffin arrangements and smaller personal floral designs placed at the graveside for mourners. Attention will be given to structure, movement, transport safety and durability, as well as emotional storytelling through flowers.

Participants will again complete three designs under professional guidance while learning efficient workflow strategies used in professional funeral floristry.

Professional Practice

Throughout the course, lectures and discussions will address how to work successfully as a funeral flower designer — including communication with families and funeral directors, pricing, logistics and maintaining sensitivity in emotionally demanding situations.

This course combines technical excellence with thoughtful reflection, offering florists the confidence and knowledge needed to create work that honours remembrance with dignity and beauty.

Funeral Flower Design Intensive

This course is designed for florists who wish to move beyond technical competence and enter the realm of thoughtful, high-level funeral floristry — where craftsmanship, cultural understanding and emotional intelligence meet.

Over the course of two intensive days, participants will gain the confidence to design funeral work with clarity of concept, refined aesthetics and professional authority. You will leave with a deep understanding of how contemporary funeral flowers function not only as decoration, but as a language of remembrance.

Through six completed designs — including urn arrangements, wreaths, coffin installations and personal farewell pieces — you will develop advanced construction techniques, proportion, movement and material sensitivity appropriate for high-end commissions.

Equally important, you will acquire essential knowledge about religious rituals, cultural expectations and ceremonial contexts, enabling you to work respectfully and competently with families, funeral directors and international clients.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be confident and professionally prepared to work within the field of funeral floristry. You will understand how to approach clients and ceremonies with sensitivity, structure your workflow efficiently, and deliver designs that meet the expectations of a premium market.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to confidently offer funeral floristry as a professional service within a high-end environment: pricing work appropriately, communicating with empathy and authority, managing logistics, and creating designs that carry both emotional depth and aesthetic distinction.

This is not simply a technical workshop. It is a professional repositioning — allowing you to step into funeral floristry as a specialist discipline and to offer meaningful, elevated work that honours farewell with dignity, restraint and beauty.
